UPI Scam Awareness
UPI-based fraud often relies on urgency and social engineering. Fraudsters may impersonate bank agents, customer care staff or payment verification teams and urge victims to approve a transfer, scan a QR code or share a one-time password.
Warning signs
- Unexpected request to pay and verify a transaction
- Fake QR codes or payment screenshots
- Pressure to act before the victim checks details
Safety steps
- Verify the payment destination
- Never share OTPs
- Call the official bank or merchant number directly
