Digital arrest scam
Digital Arrest Scam in India
Digital arrest scams are a form of criminal impersonation in which fraudsters claim to be police officers, enforcement agents or government representatives. They often threaten victims with legal action, fake warrants or arrests unless the victim provides money, a bank OTP, remote access to a phone or verification details.
Scammers use urgency, repeated calls, video calls and threatening language to create panic. They may invent timelines, claim a case is active or say a court order has been issued. The emotional pressure is designed to stop the victim from thinking clearly.
People should avoid sending money in a panic, never share OTPs or banking credentials, preserve all screenshots and call logs, and report the issue through the correct reporting channels.
